Know Your Audience Pt.1

Knowing your target audience is a crucial factor in determining where to place your ads. I touched on this topic in the last post, but I want to elaborate more on this specific detail. The conclusion you come to from the last blog post should help find your audience.

To put it into perspective, think of yourself as the customer. Ask yourself, will this service or product help me? Is it necessary for me to buy it? Is it worth my time? In some cases, do I want it? Think about what kind of person would want your product or service. Consider factors such as what these potential customers already own, their budgets and tastes. This will help save time and money when planning where to put your ads.

For example, you wouldn’t try to advertise mud flaps to children. First of all, children aren’t old enough to drive. Second, they don’t own a semi truck. Lastly, they usually don’t have money and I doubt they will be putting it on their Christmas list. Another example would be not advertising a plumbing service to people who live in apartments. They don’t need it because it is the landlord’s job, need I say more?

One could argue that you could advertise to people who aren’t your target audience because they can spread your business through word of mouth. This is somewhat true, but advertisement by word of mouth is more likely to spread if a customer has already utilized your service. Leaving an impression on a customer will influence this tremendously. This is especially true when going through the customer reviews.
